A reference button was developed in three sizes, with a slightly domed shape and simplified cross details for the smallest version. The brief specified a light gold finish and red, blue and white color filling. Development focused on controlling the fill boundaries and keeping the raised design details visible, particularly around the blue areas.
Material: Alloy.
Process: Electroplating and hand-applied color filling.
Development result: Passed after two sampling rounds.
Floral Button Adapted into a Brooch
Brooch development sample, shown from the front and reverse.
A 36 mm floral button was adapted into a brooch by removing the rear button shank and adding a pin. The development combined several decorative materials while retaining the flower-shaped arrangement. Secure attachment of the pin and decorative components was an assembly objective throughout the work.
Materials: Alloy, imitation pearls, rhinestones and resin.
Process: Electroplating and manual assembly of decorative components.
Development result: Passed after one sampling round.
Rose-Pattern Spherical Cord End
Rose-pattern cord-end development sample.
A spherical cord end was developed from an illustrated reference rather than a physical sample. The brief required rose details on both sides and concealed clip ends. Development focused on reproducing the specified construction and controlling hand-applied color filling on the curved surface, where excess coating could flow beyond the intended areas.
Materials: Alloy body and copper clip.
Process: Electroplating and hand-applied color filling.
Development result: Passed after one sampling round.
